Laura Craperek (oops... Kraperek) is the Queen of political sign litter. Kraperek shows us no respect; she must think we are stupid. Once again Kraperek puts up an illegal political sign. [south-side of Guadalupe just west of the 101 in Tempe]
Politicians know the rules for placing political signs on city property, but they do it anyway. Here is why.
They place a sign illegally on city property. The police are impotent to do anything. By the time the illegal sign is reported to the city, and by the time city has a chance to investigate, and by the time the city can contact the politician to take it down, and by the time it takes the city to tell the politician for a second time to take it down... the political sign has been up for a couple of weeks.
A politician was quoted saying that political signs are used for name recognition. Given the aforementioned scenario, the politician gains two weeks of name recognition without experiencing any negative side-effects.
Why doesn't the city issue a fine when political signs are illegally placed?
The city should record all illegal political sign placements and make this information public information.
